This item is the first of a series I will be doing to document a simple Server Cluster design that I have used.This has come about from requests in the Moodle community where clustering of servers is required to provide redundancy and increased performance.

The design will be deployed on two physical servers, using a Virtual Machine environment with four virtual servers per machine. Each server will host a load balancer, a web server, a file server, and a database.

This series will be developed over the coming months and be divided into the following topics:

• System hardware and Virtual Server environments
• Load Balancing and failover
• Web Server, sessions, and updates
• File server, repositories, synchronisation and network issues
• Database implementation, tuning, and replication
• System monitoring and operations
• System trouble shooting

As material is developed it may also change a little.
